Mineral oil : why to avoid it?

Mineral oil: why to avoid it

I have been living with natural options since 3 years now. I always promote the use of natural oils in your daily body and skin care. There is an oil available in the market, which I do not support or suggest to use. It is ‘ Mineral oil ’. I was astounded to see that baby oils and moisturizers contain this oil as their major ingredient. Babies have the most delicate and thin skin barrier. Whatever you apply is absorbed very quickly. I am sure nobody would like to apply such type of ingredient on their babies at least. More…

Skin barrier – Steps to make it strong

27 Sep , 2015

Strong skin barrier

There has been a rise in people complaining about a skin condition “sensitive skin”. I do not classify sensitive skin as a skin type. It is a skin condition, which can be developed by any of the three skin types (oily, dry and combination skin). Sensitive skin is not hereditary and mostly is developed due to our regular habits since childhood. Poor diet, allergy conditions and applying cosmetics with dangerous chemicals are few of the reasons. More…

Oily skin: cause and care

22 Sep , 2015

oily-skin

Many of my clients nowadays are increasingly complaining of ‘oily skin’. Oily skin means secretion of sebum from facial pores more than normal. It is characterized by extreme oil production on the ‘T – zone’ (forehead, nose and chin area). Oil is produced whenever skin is irritated from outside or some imbalance from inside. Sebum is produced by ‘sebaceous gland’. Sebaceous gland is triggered to produce excess oil by many factors that I am going to discuss below.

Oil cleansing method – Indulge your life with natural oils

20 Sep , 2015

oil cleansing

Oil cleansing method is a recent trend I have seen seeping in. It suggests cleaning your skin with an oil blend instead of foamy cleansers. The soapy cleansers available in market are often loaded with Sulphate, Paraben, fragrances and other chemicals. These chemicals cause irritation, dryness and over the time there are chances to develop cancer.

Linoleic acid and oleic acid – fatty acids essential for healthy skin

18 Sep , 2015

Human sebum consists of triglycerides, fatty acids, squalene and wax esters. Triglycerides and free fatty acids together constitute 57.5% of human sebum, squalene (12%) and wax ester (26%). Triglyceride is made up of glycerol and 3 fatty acids (palmitic, oleic and alpha linoleic acid). Fatty acids also have oleic acid, linoleic acid and other important fatty acids. Hence we see that oleic acid and linoleic acid are major part of the oil secreted by sebaceous gland. So let us see what are the benefits and disadvantages of oleic acid and linoleic acid.

11 Sep , 2015

Harmful chemicals in our daily skincare

Everybody wants to look their best. They achieve this by using skincare or cosmetic products. Due to this, we daily absorb up to 130 types of harmful chemicals through different cosmetic products. There are many companies who claim to specify their products ‘natural’ or ‘organic’ but according to USDA a product needs to be only 70% certified organic to be called as ‘made with organic or natural. 30% of the remaining can easily accommodate toxic ingredients.

“NO POO” – my struggle vol 1

8 Sep , 2015

The first and instant problem of letting harmful chemicals into my life was on my hair. Whenever I applied hair masks, my hair used to tell me that it loved the treatment. It feels very good instantly but what happens as the day proceeds? Let us see how “No poo method” worked for me.
